Don’t be surprised to know that there are some things in life that are more expensive than you realize. For example, a bike may actually be more costly than a car. Do you think we’re bluffing? Sorry to say, no we’re not. Take a look at the most expensive bikes in the world.
These 5 cool bikes carry price tags bigger than you might realize!
1. Trek Butterfly Madone
Did you know that you can already purchase a badass ride with the Trek Butterfly Madone’s price tag? Yes, that’s right. Because this bike right here costs a whopping $500,000!
Don’t think it’s simply girly just because it’s pink. There’s more to this masterpiece. This is Damien Hirst’s artwork and he made this with real butterfly wings that were placed onto the actual frame and rims of the bicycle. Lance Armstrong rode this bike in the 2009 Tour de France.
This wonderful bike utilized the beauty of natural wings taken from butterflies, so not a lot of people were particularly happy about this “artwork.” In fact, there were some who highly opposed to this art piece. Some animal rights activists even called this one “barbaric.”
2. Trek Yoshitomo Nara Speed Concept
Trek Yoshitomo Nara Speed Concept bike costs around $200,000, and was sold in the same auction as the one Butterfly Madone was sold at. This one right here is a carbon fiber masterpiece painted and decaled by Japanese artist Yoshitomo Nara. Just like the first Trek bike, Armstrong rode this one too during the 18th stage of the tour.
From a distance, it looks so cute, like it’s something you can ride on your way to university. But we bet you never imagined that it’s one of the most expensive bikes in the world. Well, you can’t get your hands on this one, but you can just imagine how it feels like riding this bike.
3. KAWS: Trek Madone
This may be one of the most expensive bikes, but we love the story behind this. KAWS: Trek Madone was launched in affiliation with the Livestrong foundation’s fight on cancer. The famous artist KAWS customized and completed this design. If you’re familiar with his work, you can find his signature design or the well-known “chomper” teeth on the frame and wheel rims.
KAWS: Trek Madone fetched $160,000 during an auction at another charity affair. It boasts great aerodynamics, state-of-the-art accessories, and loads high. It’s definitely a bike we’d love to get on!
4. Aurumania Crystal Edition Gold Bike
Wait a minute. This one’s a gold bike. Why is this not on top of the most expensive bikes in the world list? Apparently, the butterflies win, so suck it up! Aurumania’s Crystal Edition Gold Bike costs about $103,700 in America and features a gold-plated frame, spokes and wheels, along with 600 Swarovski crystals. The other notable details in this bike include the Brooks brand molded leather saddle, as well as handlebar grips that are hand-sewn and made from chocolate-brown leather.
Considering that the company name Aurumania literally means “preoccupied with gold,” there’s no surprise that they highlighted their signature theme in this bike. We’re already imagining the rich and dapper elite biking across their huge mansion hidden in the woods. This certainly looks the type for that scenario, huh?
Fun Fact: Aurumania only created 10 units of this Gold Bike Crystal Edition, and around 50 units without crystals.
5. Trek Madone 7-Diamond
Trek has a couple of entries in the world’s most expensive bikes. Are we even surprised? The Trek Madone 7-Diamond takes the number 4 spot in this list. It is intricately and elegantly decorated with 100 white diamonds. The bike even has seven man-made one-karat diamonds on its head badge.
Trek created this one just after Armstrong bagged his record-breaking seventh Tour de France. This beautiful bike got auctioned for charity for $75,000.
How do you feel about these cool and most expensive bikes in the world? If you have the money, do you think you’d really spend hundreds of thousands of dollars for one bike? Or would you rather stick to the regular one?
If I were you, maybe I’d just spruce up my garage with awesome decals that give the illusion I am housing a fighter jet or a military tank. Or maybe, I’d just get my hands on cool Star Wars fire pits!
