Walmart, the largest private employer in the United States, plans to hire 150,000 temporary workers by the end of May as the Coronavirus pandemic continues to sweep through the country. Amazon, the wealthiest company in USA, plans on adding over 100,000 new workers to also help keep up with demand from the Coronavirus. Costco, plans on hiring around 100,000.
Walmart is hiring positions in stores, clubs, distribution centers and fulfillment centers. These jobs are meant to be temporary, however the company has stated that many of these will turn into permanent jobs for employees.
“These roles will be temporary at first, but many will convert to permanent roles over time,” Walmart said in a press release. “We’ve reached out to industry groups representing restaurants and hospitality to facilitate temporary roles that can be a bridge for their employees during this difficult time.”
Amazon is hiring for warehouse workers and deliver workers effective immediately. These are also temporary jobs, but like Walmart, Amazon has stated that these can easily turn into permanent jobs with full benefits.
Costco is hiring employees immediately for their warehouses. Demands from customers thanks to the Coronavirus are placing enormous stress on the current employees in the warehouses. Tends of thousands are needed to help keep up with demand, and Costco is one of if not the best nationwide chain to work for. As the other companies have also stated, this is a temporary job but can easily turn into a permanent job. Costco has also claimed “Work here for as long as you need.”
Pizza Chain Dominos is hiring 10,000+ workers for delivery service. Since restaurants are shutting down and delivery and takeout are the only options, the demand is too much.
With all of the unemployment happening thanks to the pandemic, there are still companies looking to hire immediately.
